Current Newspaper Project:The role of women in politics and society

Role of Women In Society The role of women in society has been greatly overseen in the last few decades but now areexternal image arrow-10x10.png coming to a more perspective to people. In the early days women were seen as wives who were intended to cook, clean, and take care of the kids. They were not allowed to vote while men took care of having jobs and paying any bills that had to be paid.

Soon enough it caught on that women should have a bigger role than what other people thought women should have. Women would have strikes and go on marches to prove that they should have rights just like everyone else.

Women have gained little ground in political leadership around the world, with men still in about 80 percent of key elected and appointed positions, according to the World Economic Forum's annual Global Gender Gap Report.

Feminist ideas

external image votes-for-women-200x300.jpg
Feminist ideas were abound across Europe in the nineteenth century. Activists like Mary Wollstonecraft and Anna Wheeler fought for women’s rights in all aspects of society whether political, social, cultural, or economic. I found that the major leaders who kept appearing in my research were from bigger, more industrialized countries like England and France, perhaps because they did not have such oppressive governments as other lesser countries. The promotion of equality in marriage, parenting as well as attaining property rights for these women were of particular concern in the beginning of the century. By the end, however, focus shifted to two different sectors.
A lot of years women were just used for the maintain of the houses and the children while the men went to work,

Gender equality, also known as sex equality is the view that men and women should receive equal treatmen , and should not be discriminated against based on gender . This is the objective of the United Nations Universal Declarations of Human Beigns , which seeks to create equality in law and in social situations, such as in democratic activities and securing equal pay for equal work. The relatedexternal image arrow-10x10.png topic of rights is treated in two separate articles,
Men´s rights and Women´s rights.

Violence against women is a technical term used to collectively refer to violent acts that are primarily or exclusively committed against women. This type of violence is gender-based, meaning that the acts of violence are committed against women expressly because they are women, or as a result of patriarchal constructs. The Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women defines as "any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life" and states that:
"violence against women is a manifestation of historically unequal power relations between men and women, which have led to domination over and discrimination against women by men and to the prevention of the full advancement of women, and that violence against women is one of the crucial social mechanisms by which women are forced into a subordinate position compared with men"
Forms of VAW include sexual violence (including war rape , marital rape and child sexual abuse, the latter often in the context of child marriage), domestic violence , forced marriage, violence related to accusations of witchcraft. Fighting against VAW is considered a key issues for gender equality. The Council of Europe adopted the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).
In some parts of the world, various forms of VAW are tolerated and accepted as parts of everyday life.
"In some developing countries, practices that harm women , such as wife-beating, are condoned as being part of the natural order of things.""There are many examples from past practice in Council of Europe member states that show that exceptions to the prosecution of such cases were made, either in law or in practice, if victim and perpetrator were, for example, married to each other or had been in a relationship. The most prominent example is rape within marriage, which for a long time had not been recognised as rape because of the relationship between victim and perpetrator.

As women of many different countries, still face discrimination and unequal legal position before the law, the implementation of women's humanexternal image arrow-10x10.png rights worldwide is becoming more and more important. With the declaration of International Women’s Year in 1975 by the UN General Assembly and the ratification of various international conventions and human rights instruments such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 1979, many governments have embarked upon the road towards committing to genuine gender equality. Yet, abuses, discrimination and violence against women areexternal image arrow-10x10.png still common around the world, also in the Arab World, where the women’s right of participation in public lifeexternal image arrow-10x10.png is restricted and when they do not enjoy legal equality, in particular in terms of family law provisions.

From 1960 on, the women's liberation movement campaigned for women's rights, including the same pay as men, equal rights in law, and the freedom to plan their families. Their efforts were met with mixed results Issuesexternal image arrow-10x10.png commonly associated with notions of women's rights include, though are not limited to, the right to bodily integrity and autonomy; to vote (universal suffrage); to hold public officeexternal image arrow-10x10.png; to work; to fair wages or equal pay; to own property; to education; to serve in the military; to enter into legal contracts; and to have marital, parental, and religious rights.Feminists have worked to protect women and girls from child sexual abuse, challenging the prior belief that girls caused men to have sex with them even when the girls were very young. In the final three decades of the 20th century, Western women knew a new freedom through birth control, which enabled women to plan their adult lives, often making way for both career and family. The movement had been started in the 1910s by U.S. pioneering social reformer Margaret Sanger and in the UK and internationally by Marie Stopes.

This is a letter of a girl

who suffered abusses:

I felt guilty . I thought something was failing . I , not him. So I did not blame him. I do not know if he understood , perhaps more he justified it. The first time was a pull hairs. I was cooking . He came home and worried and angry. I asked what was wrong. He said he did not feel like talking , to shut up . I insisted , I went to him for help and I asked again . Because it looked bad . He insulted me and grabbed me by the hair . One moment the two frozen , staring into his eyes. He let go and apologized . He hugged me immediately . Sorry . Sorry . Sorry . Three times. I could not mourn , I was not prepared for that.
I told him to stay quiet. And I loved him, everything would improve. I was there to help . Because I was his lifeexternal image arrow-10x10.png mate. I love you,he whispered . And there was no dinner

. We went to sleep. Life went on . Everything was normal . That was somewhat isolated . No sense to stay with that. I decided to forget. Everybody could get wrong. And he also had the right to be wrong. So the second time I was not surprised , maybe. I spoke to him. I went back to talk and he insulted me . He came to me quickly . I expected with the look of fear. Art thou dumb? Areexternal image arrow-10x10.png you stupid? Huh ? As he grabbed my arm tightly.
It was a slap on the right cheek . I did not let the clothes while I was tending . See what you do to me ? And he left. I was hard . And after a while I started to shake. Alone at home. I realized that something was changingexternal image arrow-10x10.png . And unfortunately I felt that I just could accept that. Silence and acceptance. And when you get used to things, it becomes normal . So life went on normally . Sometimes good , sometimes bad . Like life itself. There were very happy, loving days. They had horrible days that left my soul and body shaking. But they were days. And there are many in life , so I could never blame him.

For a long time I tried to understand. Because he was a prisoner of habit. And the custom was reality . A frightening reality . Very afraid. Many strokes. Many sorrows. Physicists learned to endure . The other pains were killing me.However , when we were with people, Sebastian was a sweetheart . Attentive and caring , as it always was when we were in public.

+Marce Oh , your boyfriend is a sun. That cute couple they make. Envy .
And I smiledexternal image arrow-10x10.png nervously. Sometimes while burning hell is closer to what they told us . To deceive , the devil becomes the image that is less in the devil .
I think that he never wantedexternal image arrow-10x10.png to kill me . He wantedexternal image arrow-10x10.png me alive. To continue to do so . There were many months , became a long time and I had to endure . A pain that few can imagine. The hardest thing is not to leave everything and go . The hardest thing in this case is saying. Today I decided to tell all my suffering . Release. And I do it because , even though he had decided to give my life , that I was snatching .

- Today I am no longer at home. I left . And I will not come back.

+Do not go my love . Everything will changeexternal image arrow-10x10.png . I promise. I love you

-. No Seba . That is not love. I love you. But I also love myself . So I 'm going . And you will not changeexternal image arrow-10x10.png . Change . For everything to change .

+ Sorry for wounds... it was not me! Please!

+No the wounds at all . The wounds died, now they areexternal image arrow-10x10.png just the remains of the scars. Apologize for the trauma to me. And if ... was you . It was always you. Coward!
